Welcome Remarks

iPOP2013, the 9th event of iPOP International Conference, which has been sponsored by Photonic Internet Labs (PIL) and ISOCORE since its inception, will take place in Otemachi Tokyo, Japan during May 30- 31, 2013. The venue is KDDI Otemachi Building, where is 5 min. on foot from Tokyo station.

We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to all participants and thank them for their support. The conference has clearly established itself as the key event for the optical transport and IP/MPLS networks.

The iPOP 2013 Conference addresses important topics and issues related to Optical Transport Networks and IP/MPLS Networking. This year, the technical program committee has put together an exciting program consisting of technical sessions with emphasis on presentations on Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON), Wavelength Switched Optical Network (WSON), Path Computation Element (PCE) and its applications, Packet Transport over Optical.

In addition to the main topics above, following last iPOP 2012 and MPLS 2012 in Washington DC, Inter Cloud Networking and Software Defined Network (SDN) are clearly becoming important topics. SDN is a key network technique in Data center. This year, we expect to discuss how SDN can be extended to carrier backbone networks, multi-area networks and multi-layer operation incorporating optical paths. For Inter-Cloud networking, standardization is progressing well, prototype system has been tested, and expected to see business opportunities in the near future.

We hope that you would be able to attend and enjoy iPOP 2013 and make this event a great success! We look forward to your participation and support.
