Welcome RemarksiPOP 2017 is the 13th anniversary of this conference! This annual International event which has been sponsored by Photonic Internet Labs (PIL) and ISOCORE since its inception, takes place June 1-2, 2017, in the Fujitsu Ltd Kawasaki Main Office, Nakahara Kawasashi-shi, Japan. Fujitsu Ltd. is known to be one of the leading vendors for photonic systems in the world. This year we are augmenting the existing central theme of the conference, optical transport networks to include topics such as SDN and NFV while still keeping the focus on reliable, manageable, flexible and cost effective carrier and/or service provider networks. Those networks are more focusing on data-center, mobile and IoT or M2M infrastructure. They have different QoS and trustworthy. Networking is now becoming software based and providing flexibility and programmability. Such NFV functions are connected by bandwidth restriction-free optical links with delay tolerance. In addition, this carrier technologies are based on the newly developed AI or Big data analytics technology will coordinate with network and create new services. Last year, iPOP demonstrated photonic multi-technology network with robot M2M control. To emphasize, we will also have an interoperability demonstration on this topic. The technical program committee has put together an exciting program consisting of technical sessions with emphasis on presentations on SDN, Orchestration with data/network, PCE (Path Computation Element) with data analytics and its applications, and advance data-center network with Optical Devices. In addition, there will be technology showcases and other demonstrations in the booths.
